NORTH SAILS STRENGTHENS PARTNERSHIP WITH CAPE 31 CLASS FOR CONTINUED GROWTH

North Sails and the  Cape 31 Class are proud to announce the continuation—and expansion—of their successful partnership for the 2025 season.

Since the class’s inception in 2017, North Sails has played an integral role in developing and optimizing the sail package for both One Design and IRC racing. This collaboration has helped the Cape 31 establish itself as one of the most exhilarating high-performance keelboats on the global sailing scene.

Designed by world-renowned naval architect Mark Mills, the Cape 31 delivers exceptional performance—planing in just 13 knots of breeze—and excels under multiple rating systems. What began as a standout racing class in Cape Town, South Africa, has rapidly grown into an international success, with thriving fleets in the UK, US, Mediterranean, and Asia.

Ben Saxton, Cape 31 Class Leader at North Sails, shared:

“We’re excited to strengthen our partnership with the Cape 31 class in both the UK and the Mediterranean, reinforcing our continued success. With 3Di technology powering the most competitive boats on the water, including the winner of last year’s European Championship, North Sails delivers unmatched speed, lasting performance, and the lightest sails.  For 2025, we’re introducing a few exciting developments for the Cape 31 racecourse. With our team of experts actively racing at events worldwide, we’re committed to providing sailors with the highest level of expertise and support—on and off the water.”

North Sails remains deeply embedded in the class— not only as a leading sail supplier, but as an active presence on the racecourse. With designers and experts regularly competing, sail development continues to evolve at the highest level, delivering cutting-edge performance for all teams.

Cape 31 Class Manager Tor Tomlinson Cheney added:

“North Sails has been a key supporter of the class from day one. Their commitment to continuous improvement and their hands-on approach have helped drive the Cape 31’s success on the international stage. We’re thrilled to extend our partnership into the Med and to continue working together for another exciting season in the UK.”
